BASIX Certificates
A BASIX Certificate is mandatory for all developments in New South Wales (NSW) and will ensure that your development complies with the sustainability targets.
The Building Sustainability Index (BASIX) aims to minimise environmental impact by reducing potable water consumption, improving thermal comfort and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The BASIX standards apply to the following developments:
- New homes, dual occupancies, villas, townhouses, and multi-unit developments
- Renovations/extensions valued at $50,000 or more
- Large swimming pools and outdoor spas with a capacity of 40,000 litres or more

NatHERS Ratings & Certificates
The Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) provides energy ratings for new dwellings and renovations. NatHERS uses computer simulations to rate homes from 0 to 10 stars, indicating their expected energy usage. Accredited software tools such as BERS Pro, FirstRate5, HERO or AccuRate are used to input data such as:
- Weather
- Occupancy
- Construction materials
- Insulation and glazing
- Colours
- Shading
- Compliance with national energy standards

NatHERS Whole of Home (WoH) Assessment
The NatHERS Whole-of-Home (WoH) assessment is a new requirement that generates a score based on appliances such as:
- Heating and cooling systems
- Hot water systems
- Stove and cooktop type
- Solar panels
- Battery storage
- Lighting
